The Pud
u
cherry government has hiked the monthly medical allowance for beneficiaries of the Old Age Pension (OAP) scheme.

A notification of the Department of Women and Child Department operating the scheme said each beneficiary would be entitled to get Rs 500 for medical treatment against Rs 100 available so far.

The increased allowance would be effective retrospectively from June this year.

The government has effected necessary amendment in this regard to 'Grant of Financial Assistance to Old Age Pensioners for Medical Treatment Rules 2001', the notification said.

The government provides a monthly assistance ranging between Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,000 to the elderly, depending on their age. This is a very popular welfare scheme government has been operating.

Earlier there was a uniform monthly assistance of Rs 1100 to the aged, irrespective of the age. But now the assistance has been revised upward depending upon the age of the beneficiaries.
