Orissa office organised various programmes on eve of celebration of
International Day Of older persons. The programme started on 28th
Sept'10 at Bhubaneswar & ended on 4th Sept'10 at Rourkela.

Special health check-up camp:-
A special health check up camp was organised on 28th Sept'10 in the
premises of Zonal dispensary, IRC Village, Bhubaneswar. The Corporator
was present on this day. The Health Camp started at 2.00 Pm &
continued till 5.30 Pm. Doctors from various specializations like
Medicine, Neurology, Orthopedic, Ophthalmic, Physiotherapy, ECG, were
contacted & they were provided their services to a huge number of
patients.

Special Programme on 30th Sept'10:-
HelpAge India Orissa office celebrated the International Day of Older
Persons on 30th Sept'10, at Bhanjakala Mandap, Bhubaneswar. Sri Badri
Narayan Patra, Hon'ble Minister , Urban development Department, Orissa
was the chief Guest on this occasion & inaugurated the function by
lighting the lamp & released the Economic & Health Survey Report
on India's oldest old ( 80+)- NEEDS,CARE & ACCESS done by HelpAge
India. Sri Ananta Narayan Jena, Hon'ble Mayor, Bhubaneswar Municipal
Corporation & Sri Ashok Chandra Panda, Hon'ble MLA, Akamra,
Bhubaneswar were Guest of Honor on this occasion.

HelpAge India Orissa branch felicitated three eminent personalities
for their immense contribution to the Society, the names of which are
given below:-
1. Sri Dandapani Mishra
2. Dr. Srinivas Sahoo
3. Sri Ladu kishore Sahoo

Rashmi Mohanty, Deputy Director, Orissa & CG, HelpAge India welcomed
the participants & addressed the gatherings on various problems of the
elderly, health is being the major problem faced by them & told the
importance of the day.
Sri Ananta Narayan Jena, Hon'ble Mayor, Bhubaneswar Municipal
Corporation highlighted the importance of old age homes for senior
citizens & Sri Ashok Chandra Panda, Hon'ble MLA, Akamra, Bhubaneswar
were also highlighted the problems of the elderly particularly the
social security at present & discussed with the gatherings on the
survey report carried out by HelpAge India.
The felicitated guests were sharing their experiences in detail.
Sri Badri Narayan Patra, Hon'ble Minister , Urban Development
Department, Orissa focused more on isolation , being the major
problem in old age, he suggested the development of neighborhood as
most of the senior citizens are living alone.
A Cultural programme was also organised on this occasion. The students
of Mother's Public School staged a one act play named "ALODA". Miss
Punyasweta Mohanty, Xavier International school performed"ODISSI
"dance. Sri Narayan Nayak & Smt Jayashree Jyotirmayi sahoo presented
patriotic songs in the closing ceremony.

Mr. Panchanan Pradhan, program Manager, HelpAge India facilitated the
programme.Sr Shailesh Chandra Nag, Sr. Executive, HelpAge India gave
vote of thanks.

The President, secretary & members of the Senior citizen Associations,
school children, students of SUSRUSA, HelpAge India staff were also
present on this occasion.
1ST OCT'10 PROGRAMME:-The International day of Older Persons was
celebrated at Brahman Jharilo, dist – Cuttack, one of the operational
areas of MMU, Bhubaneswar. Mr. Niranjan Behera, BDO, Barang Block was
the Chief Guest on this occasion. An Intergenerational Walkathon was
organized followed by signature campaign on better Health care
facilities & medical assistance to people (80 + ), meeting, handed
over the Charter of Demand on 'accessible Health Care Facilities
For Older Persons , health Insurance , Social security & pension' by
the older Persons to Mr. Niranjan Behera, BDO, Barang Block. The
students, teachers & staff of DPS-Kalinga distributed umbrellas, bed
sheets & food packets to all older persons present on this day. The
older persons expressed their gratitude to DPS Kalinga & HelpAge India
for organising the event in their area & usable gifts. All staff of
Bhubaneswar office & Mr. Subhankar Biswas - , Manager- RM from
National Office, Kolkata were present on this occasion.( The Detailed

Programme at Rourkela on 4th Oct10:-

A programme was jointly organised by HelpAge India & Rourkela Steel
Plant Retired Employees Association, Rourkela on 4th Oct'10 at 10.00
Am. The members of various retired Employees Forum, Welfare
Associations, Senior Citizen Associations, Health Club, Laughing club
were present on this occasion.

The Hon'ble Minister, Food & Civil Supply Sri Sarada Prasad Nayak,
Govt. of Orissa was the Chief Guest & the Vice-Chairman, Rourkela
Municipality was the Guest of Honor on this occasion. In this meeting,
various problems of the elderly were discussed. A Charter of Demand
on 'accessible Health Care Facilities, health Insurance, Social
security, pension & issue of identity cards to all older persons
particularly 80+ age group was handed over to the Hon'ble Minister, he
assured the gatherings to take steps for issue of identity cards to
the senior citizens of Rourkela at the earliest & extend his
cooperation for the development of the senior citizens, Rourkela. We
felicitated six older persons who have contributed their services to
the society.
